چکیده

Introduction / objectives Bacterial resistance to antimicrobials has increased over the years, but the importance of empirical investigation of these bacteria contributes to the prevention of spread within the institution. The Infection Control Comission Protocol has as surveillance for resistant organisms since 1996.In Brazil, Klebsiela pneumoniae carbapenemase enzyme (KPC) was the first described in 2005 with an increased number of cases in the last year, prompting us to seek the epidemiological profile of inpatients.

In vivo multiclonal transfer of bla(KPC-3) from Klebsiella pneumoniae to Escherichia coli in surgery patients.

During active surveillance at the Mediterranean Institute for Transplantation and Advanced Specialized Therapies (ISMETT, Palermo, Italy) with the CARBA screening medium, five pairs of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae and Escherichia coli strains were isolated in each of five colonized patients. In each patient, lateral gene transfer was demonstrated by comparin...

Emergence of four cases of KPC-2 and KPC-3-carrying Klebsiella pneumoniae introduced to Switzerland, 2009-10.

We report four epidemiologically unrelated cases of KPC-carrying Klebsiella pneumoniae identified in Switzerland between May 2009 and November 2010. Three cases were transferred from Italy (two KPC-3, one KPC-2) and one from Greece (KPC-2). Resistance to colistin and doxycycline emerged in one KPC-3-carrying K. pneumoniae strain during therapy. These results demonstrate ongoing dissemination of...

Imported Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae clones in a Greek hospital: impact of infection control measures for restraining their dissemination.

The recent emergence of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae strains represents a major threat for hospitalized patients. We document the dissemination and control of carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clones in a Greek hospital. During a 3-year study period (January 2009 to December 2011), carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae strains were isolated from clinical samples from 7...

Evaluation of CHROMagar™ KPC for the detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in rectal surveillance cultures.

In this study, the performance of the chromogenic medium CHROMagar™ KPC was evaluated and was compared with in-house-daily prepared McConkey agar plates supplemented with imipenem (1 mg/L) for the detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. In this surveillance study, rectal swabs were cultured on both media and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for bla(KPC) and bla(VIM) was used to ...

Detection of Citrobacter koseri carrying beta-lactamase KPC-2 in a hospitalised patient, Greece, July 2011.

This report describes the detection of Citrobacter koseri carrying K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC-2) isolated in July 2011 from a Greek patient, who was also colonised by a Klebsiella pneumoniae strain coproducing KPC-2 and Verona integron-encoded metallo-beta-lactamase (VIM)-1.
